’m loath to write this review as the guest house owner was very pleasant however the place itself was well below standard. We arrived for our one night stay ten minutes before check in time but the owner said this was fine and showed us to our room. From entering the house it was clear it was dirty but nothing could have prepared us for the room itself. Had we not have had concert tickets for that evening I would have walked out immediately but with 20,000 people attending the concert in question we knew we had no chance of getting anywhere else. I don’t think the bed had been changed from the last guest as the duvet cover was badly stained and the sheet had bits of dirt all over it . (We slept fully clothed on top of the bed that night, my husband wrapped his pillow in his scarf and I wore a scarf over my hair as we didn’t want to touch the pillow.). The owner brought us a jug of milk for the complimentary tea/coffee tray but we felt unable to use it as the tray, cups, spoon were dirty so we didn’t have tea or coffee that evening or the next morning. The vanity sink was dirty, I attempted to clean it with a makeup removing wipe but still felt it was unusable as when I tried to rinse it out the water wouldn’t drain away. I don’t like complaining without trying to be constructive however I feel that perhaps if the owner were to hire in a cleaning company for a deep clean then give the place a lick of paint, which is desperately needed, modernise the fixtures and fittings, it would work in his favour as he would quickly make his money back by being able to increase his prices and have returning customers. We didn’t have breakfast as the thought of eating in such a dirty environment was just too much which was such a shame as the owner had told us about the Bangladesh breakfast he offered and it sounded lovely. Again, perhaps he could think about opening up an area of the house downstairs as a dining room to offer his home made meals, this would have been very much appreciated on our return at the end of the concert as it was late, restaurants were closed, we were hungry and it would have been just lovely to sit with a snack in a pleasant clean area, I’m sure others would use such a service if offered. The owner is a keen gardener, something I chatted to him on the phone about when I booked. Organic, home grown food is very sought after but when the garden is littered with cigarette butts, cockatoo faeces, rubbish and overflowing bins it’s not appealing. Presented well and advertised I think this would bring a lot of trade, a little bit of home grown heaven in a busy city. I’ve uploaded photos of our stay and I hope I have been as constructive as possible and the owner doesn’t reply with nasty remarks, in rhyme, as he has on other low star reviews. We are a couple in our 50s who just wanted a clean, comfortable place to sleep after seeing a band we had looked forward to seeing for a long time
